Long and Winding Roads (and Trails)

Timothy Pate Black and White Photography

A couple weeks ago, I visited Carver Park Reserve on a whim. I walked the trails alone for a few hours and snapped a photo or two. I saw fewer than a dozen people during my visit, so I focused my shots on the landscape and the roads and trails winding through the park.

I like how the photos of the expansive, empty park turned out. I played around with some different moods in Lightroom and thought I’d share my favorites here. Enjoy.

The black and white selections

It was a dreary gray day when I visited, and sapping some of the photos of what color they did have worked out well. I do occasionally shoot the original photos in monochrome; but with these, I transformed the photos into black and white while editing.

For other photos, I kept the color and tweaked the vibrancy to capture the drama of the stormy day.

I always enjoy days like this one—when I get to explore a new place almost completely alone. And on a slow, rainy afternoon, Carver Park Reserve is a great place to do just that.
